Give the Earth a big giant hug.

Happy Earth Day! As if you need a reason to celebrate the coolest planet in the solar system. Can I get a whoot whoot for Earth?

A few years ago my family celebrated by picking up litter at our neighborhood park. But I say, who needs an organized park cleanup? Why not tackle your block or a stretch of a busy street near your home? Grab some bags, some gloves and the best litter picker uppers out there: the kids. Bonus points for separating trash and recyclables. Speaking of which, did you know plastic bottle caps can be recycled at Aveda? Last time I did it, I got a few free product samples too!

Prefer a more organized pickup? Tomorrow, celebrate at Lebanon Regional Park with a family friendly cleanup from 10-12 p.m. Pack a picnic. Then 1-3 p.m. stay and play. Learn how to be healthy as a family with fun hands-on kids’ activities, free pre-season canoeing and kayaking, fitness walks, live music and more! Registration is requested.

Need more earthy goodness? Zip on over to Roseville tomorrow for its Earth Day celebration. Enjoy earth-friendly living exhibits, a walking parade, crafts and games, and the annual tree planting. With live music by Will Hale and the Tadpole Parade, Bill Hammond and Music Memories. The fun starts at 9 a.m. with walking parade and tree planting at 2:15. Oh, and bring that stack of recyclables you’ve been meaning to drop off. They’ll be collecting: fluorescent light bulbs, eyeglasses, printer cartridges, plastic garden pots and plastic bottle caps.

Go on now, there are lots of trees out there that could use a good hug.
